Friends, for this Twenty-fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time, I want to focus on the first and second readings. When read together, they give us a very good sense of Catholic social teaching in regard to the question of power. The Church’s position here is a subtle one. It doesn’t demonize political and economic power; after all, God is described as all-powerful, so power can’t, in itself, be a problem. But it is very much concerned with how we use that power.

Prayer should be step 1. Step 2 should be to speak up for those who can’t. Its only been 9 months of this administration and we have lost so much of our rights given to us by the constitution. The only part of the constitution that won’t be touched is the 2nd amendment everything else is to be eliminated. Yes God is all powerful but God is pure love and doesn’t let evil into his heart unlike this administration. It is our responsibility as US citizens to stand up for our rights to make sure our government is up holding and protecting the constitution. We can’t just burying our heads in prayer. When Jesus saw people selling and buying in the house of God he didn’t get down on his knees and pray for God to help them see what they are doing is wrong. And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: “ ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.” From my point of view this means sometimes action is needed to be taken over prayer as well as paryer.
